in view of the approaching father's day, i decided to be a good filial daughter by deviating from my usual sleeping habits and waking up at 9am to go for breakfast with my dad! he wanted to eat the "traditional breakfast" that he used to have as a kid, so we decided to go to the bukit ho swee hawker centre.. haha my dear old papa looked as if he was a child again! it seemed as though he was transported back in time, way back to the old days where they was no air-conditioning, and all they had was simple fare. just looking at the way he chatted so cheerfully with all the hawkers there made me really happy, as i haven't seen him so cheerful in ages. (okay exaggerating a bit)

and the food... just one step less from heaven, to say the least. just sitting out there with the soft rays of sunshine beating gently upon your back, sipping the aromatic traditional black kopi-o and sinking your teeth into the delicious, mouth-watering toast - a little brown at the edges, with smooth sweet kaya and melted butter sandwiched in the middle - it was simply paradise. (shit this is turning into a descriptive piece) as we tucked into our lovely traditional breakfast, i listened to my nostalgic father reminisce about the past... everyone used to be so easily contented. it's such a pity that so many children nowadays, especially in Singapore, have lost their childhood due to the fiercely competitive school environment that they are so mercilessly plunged into at such a young age.

well after that my dad was still hungry, so he decided to pay his dear laksa aunty friend a visit. we each tucked into a huge bowl of piping hot laksa, with extra cockles and chilli :), as he chatted with dear old aunty laksa. i couldn't understand a single word, so i dunno how my dad managed to tell her about my brother and i - how many kids he has, the education statuses of my brother and i, all the schools we went to, our lives in school, my rp programme, how stressed i was, how my brother is adapting to life in america... omg like everything. all in the short span of about 20 minutes. yeah the aunty is nice and all, giving us extra cockles and taupok, but she doesnt have to ask soooo much... that was like the entire history of the lives of my brother and i! =/ and i shudder to think about what my super-duperly-over-egotistical dad must've told her about me, what with the impressed looks and huge friendly grins she threw at me... while poor me had to pretend i understood her perfectly... just nod nod smile smile >.< i bet he over-exaggerated like crazy. arghhhhh... dads -.-

after that, we ate SOME MORE. omg. i never knew the extent of my dad's appetite till today. just by looking at his small frame, with frail thin limbs and protruding cheekbones (okay la exaggerating again), you could never imagine how much he could eat. yeah so anyway we bought tutu kueh... like those white rice flour thingies with coconut in it. argh i am so bloody full now... urghhh crazy daddy.

but all in all, today was good quality time spent with my dear daddy :) i mean like how often are teenage daughters who are all stressed up by the insane education system in Singapore able to spend time enjoying simple hawker fare with their daddies? hmm only thing about today was that he paid... haha. so much for an early father's day celebration. but nvm i'm sure he didn't mind ;)

alright till next time then. tata.
